Chosen to be Unchosen: Baterbonia’s sudden cut in Gilas

A lot of Filipino athletes think of Gilas as a dream that they will always dream of even after years of dribbling. However, for Rene Baterbonia it seemed within reach but short-lived because after being invited for Gilas Pilipinas, a sharp announcement was reported that he was cut off in the team.
Reasons of this unexpected change was said to be the 6’3 player’s height is apparently not enough for his ‘center’ position. Another reason was said to be the change of priorities because of Gilas’ game held on June while Baterbonia’s team will play on May, making possible conflicts in trainings. Other speculations remained confidential. Despite the news, Baterbonia remained humble and motivated, as he and the team are preparing for the upcoming Palaro 2026, aiming for another history to be marked at Agusan del Sur—his hometown, ready to own his HOMEcourt
