JMC Kings crown as LYR CUP 2022 Champs over IBA College Royal Knights; ADDU Blue Knights finish 3rd place
The Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings clinched the LYR Basketball Cup 2022 Mindanao Collegiate Championship as they beat the IBA College of Mindanao (IBA) Royal Knights, 62-52, last November 27, 2022 at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
JMC Kings bagged the LYR CUP 2022 title
After a tight first three quarters of the championship game, JMC Kings went on a scoring outburst in the final quarter as the they outscored the IBA Royal Knights, 18-14, in the payoff period to seal their championship.
Throughout the game, both teams struggled shooting from beyond the arc as they shot a combined 2 out of 40 from the three-point line. But the defensive intensity from the JMC Kings was the key in stopping the offensive prowess of the IBA Royal Knights as the Kings edged out the Royal Knights in rebounding, 41-35, and they forced the Royal Knights to 26 turnovers.
Chris Catarong was awarded as the Finals MVP of the tournament as he had a double-double performance of 16 points and 12 rebounds along with six assists. Benett Mendiola contributed with 12 points on 5/9 shooting from the field while Ramlee Lanoy had 11 points and five rebounds.
For the IBA College of Mindanao Royal Knights, Kim Bulasa had decent performance as he scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds while Dwyn Dacutanan scored seven points and dished out 10 assists.
ADDU Blue Knights defeated NDMC Rams to finish 3rd place
In the third-place game of the LYR Basketball Cup 2022 Mindanao Collegiate Championship, the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) Blue Knights finished their 2022 campaign with a victory against the Notre Dame of Midsayap College (NDMC) Rams, 93-79.
After the NDMC Rams had a 50-44 lead over the ADDU Blue Knights in the first half, the ADDU Blue Knights went on a scoring run in the second half as they outscored the NDMC Rams, 49-29, in the second half. The Blue Knights shot the ball well from beyond the arc as they hit 13 three-point shots and they played excellent defense as they had 14 steals during the match.
Ion Angeles led his team to victory as he finished with 33 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the three-point line along with two rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Isaac Go contributed with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three along with seven rebounds while Paul Malano had 13 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.
For the NDMC Rams, Beaver Lamosere scored 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and grabbed five rebounds while Lawrence Pedregosa has an all-around performance with 12 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
